Burrard Bridge in Snow
Burrard Bridge in Snow

I hate snow. I hate it so much that I moved to a new city where there was supposed to be no snow to get away from it. Low and behold, there is enough snow to completely cover my dog (this is how I measure snow, in terms of how high it goes on Gucci). I’m at work today, but apparently I’m only 1 of 10 people who got the memo that today is a working day. Vancouver has quite literally shut down, people are avoiding the outdoors like the plague.

The worst part is that I’m driving along a perilous highway to Kelowna over the next couple of days and it’s dangerous to start with- so I’m having to time my drive in conjunction with when the best weather will be. I know that I used to live in very snowy and cold climates, but I’ve become pamered by West Coast weather- much like fellow Vancouverite Law Angst. I also love the poem by In My Own Words about how it doesn’t snow in Vancouver.

Our international phone lines are down at work (and considering my customers are technically international, that makes my job kinda hard) and apparently there are people dying of the cold.

Winter=Not Fun

People all over the Lower Mainland are shocked by the snow, as evidenced by the hundreds of bloggers talking about it, so it’s not just me groaning about it… Some guy made a video from his house, which looks over downtown of all the snow on Flickr, Miss604 talks about the ever important snow ettiquette (although her pictures look like there’s not much snow), and there are Flickr pictures galore… Like this set, which is very artistic.

Actually, the snow etiquette post was from last week – before the extra 20cm we got this week :-) Thanks for the link!
