Today I wore a dress to work. A cute little A-Line dress with ruffles and trendy buttons. Looked adorable when standing in front of my mirror this morning… Realized it was going to be a disaster when I was at the bottom of my driveway but it was too late to turn around and go back to change. Spent the rest of the day aimlessly trying to pull down the sides of the skirt so as to not expose my Spanx (not even wearing them for the “suck-in” factor- just the “if the skirt blows in the wind” factor)

Dresses are great things- they’re the definition of feminine attire and are quite simply some of the easiest things to throw on. (You never have to worry about where the pants that match that top are with dresses) They’re also not very practical for anyone who has to actually do alot fo commuting, walking or activity during the day; I spent the vast majority of today huddled at my desk trying to avoid getting up because my dress seemed to have a magical power causing it to hike its way up my legs.
Perhaps the dress I’m wearing is too short, perhaps I’ve just gotten so unaccustomed to wearing dresses that I’ve forgotten how to be graceful and ladylike in them. I know for a fact that I’ve gotten far more male attention than I do in my jeans and that I’ve gotten compliments from the girls I work with. Perhaps the dress is underappreciated and should get some more kudos.
In fact, I feel much better about having presented myself in a feminine manner (I work with mostly men and fit in wearing jeans and a top) and think I might try to keep it up. Unfortunately, all I have are “party” dresses and they just don’t seem to work when coming to work. I just can’t figure out how I should commute to work wearing a dress… Where can I get work appropriate work dresses that don’t make me look like a sheath monster?
As an update, today went very well on the diet front except for the whole not wanting to get up from my desk thing… Or the fact that my VP offered us ice cream in a meeting… Or the fact that I forgot to bring lunch (But had a salad!)… Or the fact that I forgot my gym clothes. So maybe we’ll rate it a 5/10 day because I had good intentions. And yogurt for breakfast instead of my beloved Lemon Raspberry Loaf (which is apparently 440 Calories, 130 Calories from fat). Mmmmm….
Anyone wear dresses to work that can help? amanda@roccapuccia.com or leave a comment!
