Driving Shoes

26Since Mr. Roccapuccia has been away for work the last couple of days, I’ve been driving on a much more frequent basis. While this has given me a newfound sense of love for being by myself in a vehicle and not jammed into a horrible stench and disease filled public transit vehicle, it’s also created the need for bringing two pairs of shoes with me everywhere I go.

I’ve never met anyone who can drive -drive well- in any type of vehicle in 3 inch stilettos, which tend to be my footwear of choice. While I can definitely make it from point A to point B, there is some hard stopping and rough accelerations to get there when the heel makes it tougher to manoeuver and it also just isn’t comfortable. It hurts my calf muscles, which are already 90% sore (Don’t ever get in the habit of walking on your tip toes. You’ll be in calf agony for ever) and it’s just not fun. Also bad? Flip flops. Apparently other people have had this problem too, because someone has gone so far as to invent a high heeled shoe with a retractable heel that folds down into a pair of flats.

So, I have been driving in my moccasins or sandals and carrying my shoes alongside me in the backseat. Is this what normal people do? Have multiple pairs of shoes in their cars at all times? Do people just suck it up? I am going to be driving alot more frequently in the near future, so I wonder if I should invest in a pair of shoes I only wear in the car- true “driving shoes”. I did some quick research online today,a dn found that driving shoes are a very popular topic, so maybe I’m not the only one who’s crazy. I’m thinking that a true Park Avenue Princess who doesn’t have the luxury of a driver (wouldn’t that be great? You could sleep on your way everywhere) would probably have invested into a beautiful pair of Tod’s. I’m really liking the new colors and patterns of the Fall 2009 Tod’s Collection. I’d go with the hot pink or zebra.

I was browsing LuckyStyle and found that a Fancy Car is the determinant to the driving shoe question. My car is a luxury brand car, so I’m going to say that I practically have to have a pair. It would be sacreligious otherwise. Although my next car probably won’t be (Ah, you can no longer just buy whatever you want when you get old and have responsibilities, *sigh*), I’m going to base this on the car I currently drive. I might not be able to currently afford a fancy Tod’s pair, but after reading Thoughts for a Rainy day’s Fall J Crew Wishlist, I might be onboard with the JCrew Montebellos. My JCAs tell me they’ve awesome, who am I to argue?

I will be in the next few months- my commuting situation will be changing and I won’t have the option of taking the “loser cruiser” any longer :(
