I was asked this morning why I love purses. Apparently although I think of my purse collection as rather small, it has acquired a reputation around my office. It was a pretty bizarre question, and one that really made me think… And I thought I’d share the few reasons I could come up with:
1. Purses, when bought correctly, are investments: When I buy a purse, I don’t ever buy anything trendy, with logos all over it or in a shape/size/style that will automatically date it. Every single purse I own (with the exception of one Marc Jacobs bag) are all in classic shapes and styles that will last for years. Some purses I will never part with (like my vintage Christian Dior Boston bag) and I will pass down to my children, hopefully, one day. Others I can sell off on eBay or other similar sites when I get tired of them and sell them for generally the same amount I paid minus some slight margin for amortization and wear.
2. Purses will never “not fit”: Weight can be easily gained and difficultly lost- but a purse doesn’t care. Unlike your designer jeans, a purse will not stop fitting one day. This makes it a much more versatile part of my wardrobe, since they aren’t ever benched on “fat” days or saggy when the weight is gone.
3. Purses can make or break an Outfit: Women wear purses every day and with every outfit. They are worn more frequently than any other piece of clothing I own, and when worn correctly, they are able to really make an outfit pop, or add confidence.
4. Purses are fun to collect: I have all my purses sleeping in their boxes or dustbags and I like to get them out and look at them. I have a list of purses that I am looking for and I’m always considering what purses will make a difference to my collection. Some people collect stamps or coins… I collect handbags. It’s a wearable and more practical alternative to collecting in my books. It’s not like you can wear your china doll collection out in public, huh?
5. Just Because: Some people love risking their life bungee jumping, some like to cook, others like to pee on each other. I like purses.

Report On Business / Section 6
The Business Tickler page – bottom of page B6 [a lot of sixes going on here - lotto time . . .
- - under Consumer Goods - -
"Crisis pushes men to therapy, women to handbags"
And I quote;
"The desire to sport a different handbag for every occasion is shielding the largest makers of luxury leather goods from the economic crisis as women prove to be more consistent spenders than men."
It goes on to talk about Louis Vuitton and Hermes bags [I can feel you shivering from here] and gender marketing and uses words like ‘splurging’ and ‘luxury’ (more shivering?).
While a small article, it is a perfect fit with “why do (you) love handbags”.

new Groovin’ Blue (09 -10) coming this weekend ! !
I truly love you. I’ve been asked this numerous times about footwear, myself, and have given many of the same reasons. Of course, no matter how many reasons you give, boys will never understand. Them of the I-Buy-One-Pair-Of-Shoes-Every-Five-Years-And-Wear-Them-Until-They-Should-Be-Burned variety. I will be buying purses (and shoes) to my heart’s content until the day that I die, and there’s nothing anybody can do to stop me!
