After a very sweet e-mail from a reader who told me I had the “most perfect complexion ever” from my picture with the Roccapoochie awhile ago and asked what products I used, I feel like I have no choice but to answer. I don’t get flattering complexion complimenting e-mails very often. *blush*
Morning: Quite honestly, the fact that I get out of bed in the morning is a huge plus for me, so I usually don’t wash my face ever (gasp!) and just put on Neutrogena Helioplex Face Moisturizer with SPF 45. It’s light and doesn’t make my oily skin any oilier than absolutely required. Somedays I’ll put on Smashbox’s Photo Finish or Laura Mercier Foundation Primer- although that is generally reserved for special events, like days I wake up early
If you can only buy one foundation primer, I highly recommend Smashbox’s. It can scare you coming out of the bottle looking like baby oil, but it goes on really smooth and matte. A make-up artist I worked with to pick things for my skin told me that a face primer is key to good makeup- you have to prime your walls or canvas before painting a masterpiece, and your face is no different. If I shower in the morning (I normally do at night and do my hair then to avoid having to wake up any earlier than absolutely necessary) I also use REN Jojoba Micro Bead Purifying Facial Scrub that I won from the March for Maddie auction.

Night: This is where I become a tad more OCD. Thanks to my Clarisonic from Shasta at My Blonde Reality, washing my face is no longer a chore that I have to do, but something I look forward to. I start by washing my face with Skoah’s Kleansing Lotion or the Clarisonic cleansers that came with the Clarisonic itself. I am hesitant to start using them because I went to my local Sephora and they don’t carry the cleansers, so I don’t want to get hooked on something I can’t replenish. So I generally wet my face, then Clarisonic it up with the Skoah lotion. I follow up with Care by Stella McCartney 5 Benefits Moisturizing Cream or Skoah’s Dewlux Face Cream- although I’m mostly using the Stella as the Skoah is proving to be too oily and heavy for my skin. I’ve also been throwing in some eye creams and anti-aging creams, but both the Stella and Skoah have some anti-aging properties in them. I’m not sure I need to add a whole new product yet for anti-aging. I think I’m going to finish out the current supply (whch should last 6 months, seriously) and then considering getting a product with more anti-aging included. I figure I’m doing OK with the SPF 45 daily and the generic anti-aging and moisturizing every night.

Masks/Special: For days when I have oodles of time, I do face masks as well. I generally try and do them 1-2 times per week. I use Skoah’s Klearity Mask for hydrating and slight redness calming, Skoah’s Hydradew mask for when my skin is super dry, Laura Mercier Deep Cleansing Clay Mask for when blackheads have seemingly taken over and the miracle Bliss Steep Clean for a heavier duty full facial. If you can only buy one face mask, I’d recommend the Bliss Steep Clean- it’s as close as I think you can go to an at-home facial.

As a side note, the only thing I’m considering changing to my routine (other than the anti-aging above) is perhaps the addition of Latisse, the prescription-only lash enhancing serum. My problem is that I don’t have a dermatologist (although I’m trying to find one, it’s apparently not as easy as I thought) and I don’t know where else to go to find someone who can handle this type of request. My family doctor gave me a strange look when I asked for it.If you’ve never heard of Latisse, check out Pretty in Pink Megan’s Vlog about it, she does a much better job explaining it seeing as she’s used it, than I could.

This is a great post. I actually do best when I simply scrub my face twice daily with soap and water – I have sensitive skin, and this is the best way to keep my complexion glowing. I do peruse a few Neutrogena products to keep breakouts away. I think that Neutrogena has some wonderful pieces that really help to keep skin looking its best!
