My work’s Christmas Party is tomorrow evening. (Yes, I’m aware it’s still November)
The invitation is for a Friday evening right after work and jeans are the pant of choice around my office on a Friday. We are renting out a part of a restaurant that is generally full of after-work crowds having some drinks after work and as such my female colleagues and I have been discussing the shirt choices that we are going to wear in conjunction with our jeans we wear to work that we’ll put on a few more strokes of mascara and brush our hair before heading over for. The invitation was marked “Casual Elegance”. Casual (jeans, in my book) plus elegance (a nice dressy holiday top, in my book) for an overall nice look for what really boils down to an after work drink with some holiday cheer thrown in.
Today I am informed that jeans does not a casual elegance outfit make. In fact when asked for further clarification on the dress code, here is the general consensus from those with more power than me: “Think Audrey Hepburn on the weekend”. While in reality, this is quite possibly the best definition I could have ever heard of “casual elegance”, it led me to think about what Miss Hepburn would actually wear on the weekends.But wouldn’t have Audrey have allowed the dressy dark jeans of today with a sparkled holiday top and a pair of snazzy heels to be casually elegant? I really think she would have.
But I realized I should really do some more research on exactly what Audrey would have worn on the weekends, or in her casual life. Since she was the embodiment of elegance, I don’t need to go there- but anyways. I did the research and I thought I would share what I could unearth of Audrey Hepburn on what I imagine her weekends to have been like.
Ok, so she’s not wearing exactly jeans ALL that often. However, when you have an entire denim industry naming their skinny jeans after you, you have done something right in their books. I’ll have to see what I wear, pictures will follow.
