I’m not sure if you’ve heard about the girl in Brazil who was expelled from wearing a short dress to school the other day? Geisy Arruda was expelled from the land of teeny bikinis and low-rise jeans for having worn a short dress to school which apparently caused riots and disturbances at school. While the school has reversed it’s policy, it’s still important to note that this is a 20 year old student who chose to wear what she wanted to school. As she stated “”If a security guard or a professor had told me something I would have humbly returned home and changed my clothes”

The thing that has bothered me about this is that people everywhere wear clothing that is not appropriate every single day; clothes that are too short. One of my favorite blogs, Daddy Likey, has a whole feature about it called Don’t Cha Show Your ChoCha. In fact, I managed to snap a 45 year old woman (she was yelling the fact that she was 45 into her cell phone) on my train ride in this morning. At least she was wearing tights, but I assume she was wearing a dress, since I couldn’t see it under her coat. Here’s the picture I snapped. And FYI, that’s not a dress, it’s a coat.

People are wearing short skirts and dresses everyday, this was not a huge surprise or a huge shock for me to see this. I don’t think anyone should be kicked out of their schools for wearing them. Maybe sent home and asked to change, sure. But expelled? No.
