I’m a bonafide lazy city girl. For the last few years, I’ve been living downtown in a thriving metropolis- with takeout spots being more prevalent than grocery stores, more uber trendy bars than you could count on a single city block,  gourmet restaurants instead of  pop-up suburban chains, tiny dogs that fit into purses, trendy boutiques instead of malls and luxury SUVs driven by people who have never left the city.

There was one day in late 2008 when I realized that I wasn’t getting any younger, smarter or wiser and needed to make some decisions about where and how I lived. In essence, I needed to grow up and to quote my mother, “join the real world”. We sold our condo and in April of 2009, my husband and I are loading up the aforementioned SUV, a U-Haul truck full of worldly possessions (Sold all our trendy and stylish furniture in conjunction with the trendy and stylish condo) and 8.5 pound Yorkie cross dog (His name is  rather ironically Gucci) into our brand new fixer upper in the suburbs. Between renovations instead of decoration (for the first while anyways), a whole room for laundry instead of a closet, grocery stores instead of organic markets, babies in strollers instead of dogs, dining rooms instead of dining out… Talk about changes.

Luckily, it’s something I’m really happy about and that I’m looking forward to. While many parts of who I am will not change- like my outgoing personality and love of designer handbags- there are many things I need and want to learn. For example, I’d love to be able to cook my husband a delicious and healthy dinner, have clean piles of folded laundry, a nicely manicured lawn, a beautiful home, always look stylish and well-put together and have my home clean and organized so people can drop by unannounced and be welcomed with a snack and drink.

 Idealistic? Yes. Realistic? We’ll see.

This blog is all about a label-loving, urban city dwelling yuppie’s deep-dive into suburbia.
